February 2011

The Pepper Peddler Presents: A Winter Benefit Concert for Davis Farm to School was a success! Held at the Odd Fellows Hall on Saturday, Feb. 19th, the evening was filled with great music, tasty snacks, beer and wine, and lots of socializing! The local mountain music songbird Rita Hosking and Cousin Jack opened up on stage to a crowd of devout supporters. Later in the evening, the foot-stomping band from Portland Jackstraw got the crowd lively and dancing, and played three encores due to the unstoppable cheers of the crowd! There was also a popular "farm and garden" themed Silent Auction offering items for bid such as a personal beekeeping lesson, one-month local CSA and a raised garden bed made from recycled materials. We'd like to thank our local food and beverage donors for contributing tasty treats: Village Bakery, Bolani Afghan Foods, Let Them Eat Cake, Good Humus Produce, Llyod and Sarah Johnson, Dorothy Peterson, the Davis Food Co-op, and Sudwerks Brewery. We also thank all of our generous Silent Auction donors and buyers. Lastly, we send tremendous thanks to our volunteer event organizer Alexandra Hudson, and Alex Roth of the Pepper Peddler Presents. Davis Farm to School made over $1000.00 from the event proceeds, all of which will go to supporting the Davis Joint Unified School District in its goals of waste reduction, garden-based learning and farm-fresh produce as part of school lunch.
