Custodian appreciation luncheon 2015
DJUSD custodial and maintenance staff were on hand as well as school board members, administrators and our DJUSD superintendent as Davis Farm to School hosted its annual custodian and maintenance staff appreciation luncheon on 14 Aug. at the Holmes Jr. High MPR.
For the second year in a row, lively musical entertainment was provided by Mariachi Puente, the Davis student mariachi group led by Ximena and Hiram Jackson. DF2S volunteers provided a potluck luncheon including home-grown produce and an amazing fresh strawberry cake from new recycle coordinator Keri Hawkins. The awards for the annual GROW and Custodial Awards were presented by Superintendant Winfred Roberson. Congratulations to GROW awardees Jane Linville, Sheryl Yamamoto and Hailey Shapiro, and Custodial awardees Evangelina Gutierrez, Jim High and Beatriz Corillo-Morales.
New this year was the first DJUSD/DF2S Community Service Award, which was given to members of the Holmes Jr. High Green team. The Green team entertained us with a presentation on school recycling. Using the CRV recycling money they saved during the school year, they purchased gift cards and awarded them during a raffle for the custodians.
After the luncheon all participants got to take home fresh peppers and tomatoes that were grown by local farmers and DF2S staff.
Our school recycling programs depend on the outstanding dedication of our custodial staff and on forward-thinking student leaders who are creating new ways to get school populations to reduce, reuse and recycle for a greener planet. DF2S is happy to have a chance to recognize and celebrate these outstanding individuals.
