Peterson Memorial Garden Dedicated at Pioneer Elementary School
Friends and family participated in a garden dedication ceremony honoring the legacy of Dorothy Peterson, a former teacher at Pioneer Elementary and founder of Davis Farm to School (a project of the Davis Farmers Market Alliance). Construction of the Dorothy Peterson Memorial Garden, made possible through a generous donation from the owners of Dos Coyotes, is the cumulative effort of many community volunteers. Sheryl Yamamoto states, "We've created a space that will welcome and inspire people of all ages and provide an example of the power of collaboration and community spirit." This interactive and educational garden, features a habitat for butterflies, two 50-gallon rain collection barrels, an outdoor chalkboard for the children, and collaborative artwork by the graduating 6th grade class.
